We are excited to announce that our newest case study is live on our website. For this project, JKI worked with Smarter Sorting, a startup automating decision making for unsalable items, to develop and deploy their IoT product line in minimal time.

The objective of the project was to develop and operationalize a distributed, rules-based “Point of Reversal” (POR) system for commercial, non-profit, and municipal sorting of returned, outdated, and discarded items. The system required remote-update and monitoring capabilities that work well over any wireless connection whether it’s Wi-Fi or a limited-bandwidth cellular connection.

JKI developed the software for stationary, vehicle-based, and portable workstations with multiple peripherals including high-resolution cameras, scales, barcode scanners, and touchscreen displays. In addition, JKI successfully created remote update protocols and management procedures for the system using the JKI Remote System Manager.

Smarter Sorting has rolled out the POR systems to municipal and non-profit customers, and to multiple, large retail chains, each with multiple stores. Smarter Sorting can manage updates for all of its geographically distributed workstations from a central location using this system.
